How much does it cost to sponsor an orphan?
You can sponsor an orphan or needy child for just £40 a month with Yeryüzü Merhamet, which breaks down to a little over a pound a day. A pound a day seems like nothing for us, but for needy children at risk of exploitation or child labour, it can improve conditions and help create a brighter tomorrow.
How do funds reach children?
Funds are given to the child's guardian, who spends them on the child as needed. Funds may be spent on food assistance, education, clothing, medical care, clean drinking water, sanitation, school uniform or any other basic supplies/items the child needs.
Can I send my sponsored child letters?
Yes, you can send your sponsored child a letter once a year. All donors receive a pack annually,which includes space to write a letter for the child.
Can I send gifts to my sponsored child?
Unfortunately, we cannot send gifts to children due to logistical concerns. Instead, you have the option of contributing towards Eid gifts or special projects like back to school kits or clean water systems. These can benefit entire families, helping even more people in need.
How often will I hear from my sponsored child?
When you sponsor orphans, you will hear from them every year. All donors receive an orphan pack annually, which contains details about the child and a note from the child.
Can I choose which child to sponsor?
Yes. If you would like to specify which child to sponsor, you can call us on 0161 302 7888 and speak to a member of our team. You can specify countries, gender and age when speaking to our team.
Is my orphan sponsorship eligible for Gift Aid?
Yes. All UK donations are eligible for gift aid, as long as the donor is a UK taxpayer and the charity is registered to the gift aid scheme, like Yeryüzü Merhamet. If you claim gift aid, it will also apply to any future donations made with the charity, unless you inform them otherwise.
What happens if my sponsored child's family situation changes?
We recognise that sometimes circumstances change. In this instance, your orphan sponsorship funds will be re-allocated to another child in need, ensuring your support continues to make a difference on a long-term basis. If this happens, we will contact you to inform you.
What is the aim of the sponsorship programme?
The aim of the orphan fund is to provide needy and orphaned children around the world with the love, care and resources they need. Many have lost their father or both parents and your support helps restore a sense of family. Funds cover the essentials that every child needs, while also giving them the encouragement and ability to dream of a brighter future.
How does orphan sponsorship help in the long term?
Sponsorship supports children on a daily basis, helping protect them from neglect and instability. Over time, this ongoing support helps improve their health, education and overall wellbeing, giving them greater stability and a better chance of a secure future.
